Stop misleading people, Imo Assembly tells PDP lawmakers

Post Date : July 21, 2021

The Imo State House of Assembly has blasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, warning them to stop misleading the public with falsehoods and unwholesome utterances.

The lawmaking body insisted that the recent suspensions of six legislators was legal, constitutional and necessary aimed at preserving peace, stability and ensure the progress of the legislative arm in the state.

In a statement issued in Owerri, on Tuesday, in reaction to a media report credited to some PDP minority caucus in the house, led by the Minority Leader, Hon. Anyadike Nwosu, the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Information, Ethics and Privileges, Hon. Johnson Duru accused the PDP lawmakers of behaving in a manner unexpected of parliamentarians.

He said; “some of the PDP lawmakers deserve to be recalled by their constituents for misrepresentation, ineffectiveness and lack of leadership acumen.”

Duru, representing Ideator South State Constituency, maintained that PDP lawmakers were not deserving to be lawmakers, insisting that a good number of them should be recalled by their constituents for reasons of ineptitude, truancy and lack of decorum.

The Imo Assembly spokesman lauded the Speaker for his proactive leadership, adding that for the first time since the inauguration of the 9th House, the house had enjoyed stability because of stability put in place by Emeziem.

He said: “The house has enjoyed robust debates to the extent that the opposition members have on more than one occasion passed a vote of confidence on the speaker.”

Duru said that the speaker had been on the heel of the governor on any issues that bothered the house welfare, adding that as far as the house was concerned, the Executive is purely separated from the legislature and the proper checks and balances have been maintained.

He said: “It is disheartening to read on print media an insinuation by the PDP lawmakers that Imo Speaker is acting Uzodinma’s script. The question that begs for an answer is “ WHAT IS UZODINMA’s SCRIPT”.

The lawmaker said that If Uzodinma’s script is to ensure that good and durable infrastructures are put in place in Imo state, then he concurred with the PDP lawmakers.

“If Uzodinma’s script is to ensure that Imo is rescued, restored and restructured, then, what is wrong in being part of that script? If Izodinma’s script is to ensure that the legislative arm has financial autonomy, then what is wrong in acting along with him?”

Hon Duru pointed out that the lawmakers who had the interest of the state at heart would not seat and watch a group of disgruntled legislators wake up to add to the state of anarchy even at the wake of insecurity in the state with banditry and unknown gunmen, adding that they would vehemently kick against that.
