Anambra gov. polls: PDP threatens to sack erring members

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State is worried by some of its stalwarts’ move to switch camps ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

The party is threatening to expel erring members allegedly causing confusion in its fold as preparations get underway for the polls.

The State Chairman of the party, Sir Ndubuisi Nwobu, and other members of the executive council who were returned last week by the Court of Appeal, said they would make every sacrifice in making sure their candidate, Mr Valentine Ozigbo wins the polls.

Nwobu spoke at the party’s secretariat in Udoka, Awka South Local Government Area of the state, while briefing reporters after a meeting of the state exco.

He said their major worry was the number of defections by members.

He spoke 24 hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state claimed that a tsunami would soon hit the PDP when some of its members, including two senators, would be crossing over to the APC.

The chairman also, thanked members of the party’s Board of Trustees BoT for their support, while calling on all the members of the party to come together and support Ozigbo

Nwobu said: “Politics is a fluid game. We are worried about the decampments especially when it comes to senior members

“It becomes more worrisome when you look at the caliber of such members like the BoT. But we are going to reach out effectively to them in order to rebuild the party in the state

“Our removal from office was a kind of sacrifice the executive made and we have a candidate now at last, and he is Valentine Ozigbo and we are going to support him

“The person who feels that the exco would work against our candidate must be a joker.

Anybody who feels the election will be a work over for anybody does not know what politics is all about.

“We’re working seriously to bring discipline into PDP, especially those bent on destroying the party. Such people must be shown the way out if they continue misbehaving. We’re going to talk to them, but where they feel adamant, the big stick will be applied.”
