Sit-at-home order: Imo govt threatens to punish absentee workers

The Imo State government has threatened to punish any worker who obeyed the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in accordance with Tue civil service General Order.

This was just as the state government reiterated that it had not declared Monday, August 9, 2021, as a public holiday.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba, in a statement issued in Owerri on Sunday, urged workers in the state to ignore any order and come to work to avoid punishment.

The Commissioner warned that any worker who absented himself and herself from work tomorrow would be punished according to the civil service rules.

The commissioner also enjoyed residents of the state and all Imolites to go about their normal legitimate duties on Monday without any kind of molestation or harassment.

According to him, the security agencies in the state had been urged to maintain law and order in the state.

He, however, appealed to all people of Imo State to be free to carry out their daily functions assuring that government would ensure their protection.

The Indigenous people People of Biafra IPOB had earlier issued a sit-at-home order to be observed on Monday 9th August 2021 over the arrest and detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government.
