The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old mother of two, Joy Sunday, for allegedly pouring hot water on another woman, Justina Ameh, who accused her of dating her husband inside a church.

The suspect was arrested for scalding the face of Ameh, after the latter said she slept with her (Ameh’s) husband.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said the incident happened in Agbado, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

He said, “The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the Agbado divisional headquarters by the elder sister of the victim, Kelechi Samuel.

“She reported that she went for a vigil at the Spring of Life Global Ministry situated at the Giwa area of Agbado with her younger sister when the suspect came into the church with a container of hot water and poured it on her sister’s face, thereby causing her grievous harm.

“She stated further that while she was trying to hold the suspect, she was also stabbed in her left hand by the suspect.

“Upon the report, the DPO of the Agbado division, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, detailed his men to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect, Joy Sunday, explained that the victim had been accusing her of sleeping with her husband for quite some time and all efforts to disabuse her mind proved abortive.

“On that fateful day, while they were in the church, the victim came as usual and started raining curses on Joy.

“While Joy tried to walk away from her, Justina pulled her back and tore her clothes.

“It was that annoyance that made the suspect go home and boil water, which she brought back to the church and poured on the victim’s face.

“When asked whether or not she was dating Justina’s husband, the suspect said she could swear with anything that there was nothing between her and the victim’s husband. The victim has been taken to the Strong Tower Hospital for medical treatment.”

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had directed that the case be properly investigated with a view to arraigning the suspect as soon as possible.
