Uzodimma paints road for commissioning ahead of Buhari’s visit

As President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to visit Imo State, on Thursday, Governor Hope Uzodimma has intensified efforts to repair some roads that would be commissioned during the visit, by painting the roads.

One of the roads already painted is the ancient Nnekede Road in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

The road built during the administration of late Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe has undergone series of repairs by succeeding administrations in the state.

Before the new painting by Uzodimma, the administrations of Senator Rochas Okorocha and Governor Emeka Ihedioha had awarded a number of contract works for the rehabilitation of the road.

The present Uzodimma government, in the course of repairing the road and getting it ready for commissioning, has given it face lift by painting the road with a black substance.

Meanwhile, a government source, who pleaded anonymity, told Tribune Online in Owerri, on Wednesday, that the information about government painting the road for commissioning is not true.

The source said that the black liquid materials seen on the road is not paint, rather a black gummy liquid that holds other road materials together to avoid being washed away.

The source agreed that the road, though not a new construction by the present administration, would be commissioned by the president during his state visit to Imo State, arguing that the rehabilitation was massive enough to justify its commissioning.

Other roads that are undergoing rehabilitation for the commissioning by Mr. President include the government house roundabout, Okigwe/IMSU junction roundabout, among others.
