A chief magistrates’ court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of a 44-year-old man, Nasiru Umaru, who was caught having sex with a teenage hawker at the popular Mile 12 market, Ketu.
The police said the accused was allegedly caught in the act by one of the traders who raised the alarm which led to his arrest by the market security men.
The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and defilement.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. E Kubeinje, who did not take his plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The police prosecutor told the court that the accused was handed over to the police by security men contracted by the market leaders.
The prosecutor said the incident happened at LB Alabama at Mile 12 market.
He said the accused at the police station did not deny engaging in the act but told the police that he did so with the consent of the girl.
“My Lord when the victim was brought to confront the accused over his claims that he had canal knowledge of her with her consent, she said she was lured to the place where she was defiled,” he said.
The prosecutor asked the court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered his remand in Kirikiri Correctional Centre and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP while the matter was adjourned till November 5, 2021.
