Hoodlums on Thursday set ablaze the Isiala Mbano divisional police headquarters in Imo State.
The hoodlums, who also set detained suspects free, struck amidst a downpour.
Clutching explosives, the attackers reportedly struck around 7pm.
PUNCH Metro recalls that some gunmen on March 19 set the same police division on fire.
Aside from freeing suspects in detention, the attackers kidnapped one of the female cops on duty.
The hoodlums also kidnapped the President General of Luwe Nneri autonomous community, Chima Anwuru, a legal practitioner, who owned a pharmacy shop at Isinweke in the Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the state.
On arrival on Thursday, the hoodlums reportedly opened fire on the divisional headquarters before setting it on fire.
The cops on duty were said to have fled, as the attackers had a field day.
An indigene of the area, who did not want to be identified, said the hoodlums shot repeatedly at the police station.
He said, “The gunshots were terrifying. They supervised the burning of the place before leaving. Residents in the area tried to quell the fire to ensure that nobody was caught in it.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, had yet to confirm the attack.
But a senior official confirmed the incident and disclosed that the authorities had commenced investigation.
