Vice President Yemi Osinbajo should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the gains made by the Buhari’s administration, a support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said.
Osinbajo has not yet declared for president but many groups have sprung up rooting for him ahead of the 2023 general polls.
In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, the Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Consolidated Group (PCG), Barrister Emmanuel Pippain, said giving Osinbajo the mandate would be in the national interest.
He explained that Osinbajo was fit for the number one job because of his level of familiarity with the vision, achievements and challenges being handled by President Buhari, and urged him to run.
“Being a heartbeat away from the number one job, there are countless APC members and even, non-partisan citizens across the federation who are pushing for Professor Yemi Osinbajo to succeed President Buhari, solely in the interest of the nation.
“We are convinced that Osinbajo’s level of familiarity with the vision, achievements and challenges being handled by President Buhari is second to none and that such insight would enable a new APC administration to hit the ground running in 2023.
“We anticipate that various new and existing pro-Osinbajo platforms will become part of the group to which their focus appears more relevant,” the group said.
