Teachers suspended over sexual harassment of Oyo blind pupils

Oyo State Government has suspended three teachers over the allegation that they were involved in sexual harassment at the Oyo State Basic School, Ogbomoso.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Rahman Abdu-Raheem, who announced this in a statement on Friday said the Principal and the Headteacher of the Oyo State Training School for the Blind have also been transferred.

The commissioner explained that the suspension and transfer were the state government’s response to a viral video and unrest in the school recently.

He explained that the steps taken by the state government would equally enhance free and unbiased investigations by the Four-man Probe Committee put in place.

The commissioner, therefore, emphasized that the various letters issued took immediate effect, to restore peace in the school.

He said, “The staff members were immediately handed suspension and transfer following their involvement in the alleged sexual harassment at the centre.”

Abdu-Raheem warned school principals, headteachers and other staff members to desist from all compromising acts that can jeopardize the efforts of the State Government.

He assured parents and other stakeholders of constant unannounced monitoring of all schools in the state.

The commissioner equally assured the people of the state of the continuous support of the Oyo State Government to move the education sector to greater heights. He urged parents, students and other relevant stakeholders to support and partner with this government.
