Stop Killing Innocent Nigerians, Army Chief Warns Criminals

The Nigerian Army Friday warned those fueling crises in various locations across the country to desist from their unpatriotic acts, saying they will soon be dealt with decisively.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, who handed this warning in Abuja at the closing of the COAS Annual Conference 2021, also assured Nigerians of visible signs of improved security across the country in the coming year.

Yahaya’s warning came a few hours after series of protests rocked some Northern states in the country over recent killings in Sokoto and Katsina as well as rising insecurity in the country.

Daily Trust had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari sent a high-level delegation, made up of the heads of the nation’s intelligence and security services, to Sokoto and Katsina states in response to the recent spike in bandits’ activities.

Speaking during the conference, the army chief vowed that the armed forces would do everything within the ambit of the law to tame the menace, saying troops would continue to ensure that peace-loving citizens went about their legitimate businesses and lived their lives without fear or intimidation.

Yahaya directed the commandants of army training institutions to ensure realistic training to equip officers and soldiers with the right skills and competencies to confront all criminal elements in the various theatres of operations.
