Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Butcher Man In Ebonyi Community

Suspected fulani herdsmen has on Sunday attacked a farmer, Okeke Nkemjika in Amaeze community in Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State.

The Victim who is siad to be an indigene of Abia state was said to have been attacked by the herdsmen in a palm plantation where he worked as a palm keeper.

A source who spoke to TheNation said the herdsmen had been terrorizing the community for some time.

The source said that someone had reported seeing the herdsmen at night carrying guns and machete around a quarrying site.

At day break, he said he mobilized some youths and police officers to go in search of the herdsmen.

On sighting the youths and the police officers, the herdsmen started running while firing in the air intermittently to scare the villagers away.

They ran into the palm plantation where they attacked Nkemjika.

“When we got there we saw that the herdsmen had attacked two men who came to carry palm nuts from the farm and they butchered one Mr Okeke Nkemjika the farm settlement keeper from Lokpa.

“Seeing what they have done to that man we divided ourselves into two. I joined some police men with one of their van in moving to a hospital at Awgu (neighbouring town in Enugu State) so that we can save the life of the man,” he said.

The Victim who received a deep matchet cut wounds on his back and arm, is receiving treatment in the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Council, Onyebuchi Ogbadu said he was award of the incident but there was nothing before him to prove that the attackers are herdsmen as none of them was arrested.
