Five Boko Haram fighters surrender to troops in Borno

Five suspected Boko Haram members including Mallam Isa, a commander, have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert, they surrendered on July 22 to the troops of 73 Battalion, Operation Hadin Kai.

“At about 200812A, the troops of Cashew plantation deployed at Valley Shuwa had received five surrendered Boko Haram terrorists,” Makama quoted a source as saying.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the insurgents were said to have came out from Gazuwa, an acclaimed new headquarters of the Boko Haram faction, located about 8 kilometers to Bama Local Government area.”

Makama said 29 women and children later came out and surrendered to the troops after realising that the five members, including the commander, surrendered without being killed.

Christopher Musa, theatre commander of north-east joint taskforce of Operation Hadin Kai, said more than 67,000 insurgents have surrendered to troops so far.

In April 2022, 10 suspected Boko Haram members surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Borno.
