A 62-year-old herbalist, Godwin Sanda of Zagun village in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has been arrested for allegedly raping of a mentally-ill minor.
The Public Relations Officer of Adamawa Police Command, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Nguroje explained that the herbalist took advantage of the girl who was taken to him for medication.
“The suspect one Godwin Sanda a resident of Zagun village, Numan took undue advantage of the victim’s status and kept her in his custody for for treatment.”
“The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Numan by the victim’s mother Maryam Abubakar.
“Pre-investigation reveals that the victim was suffering from a mental disorder and was rushed to the suspect for possible medication by her mother.
“In a twist of the event, the suspect advised the mother to go back home pending when the victim will recover and it was as a result of the mother’s five-day absence, the suspect had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim which led to her escape from his premises back to her parent’s house.
“The suspect is undergoing investigation by detectives from State CID based on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police CP S K Akande,” the statement said.
