No fewer than 89 million Nigerians have been enrolled for the National Identity Number (NIN) in cities, creeks, and villages across the country.

The Delta State Director of National Identity Commission (NIC), Mrs. Henrietta Okolo, who disclosed this in Asaba, said of the number, “close to three million people were enrolled in Delta State, and we are still counting, but our target is to enroll everybody.”

While urging Nigerians to come out for enrollment, which is free, and within their right to do so because of the benefits, Okolo hinted that enrollment makes it easy for government at all levels to deal with their issues through the database.

She said that the Federal Government’s mandate is for all citizens to enroll, but what we are doing now is to create, maintain and manage databases and harmonise the existing identities.

“We have started enrollment and issuance of NIN. So, far we have brought 50, 000 cards to the state, and issued over half of it, but we still have about 18, 000 that have not been collected,” then she explained.

Henrietta Okolo, who advised Deltans to come for the collection of their cards, appealed to traditional rulers and other stakeholders to educate their subjects to enrol and issue with NIN.
