A journalist with The NewTelegraph newspaper, Steve Uzoechi on Thursday emerged the caretaker chairman of the Nigeria union of journalists (NUJ),Imo state chapter.
It was gathered that crisis have continued to rock NUJ in Imo over election crisis.
Speaking to Crimefacts.News after his emergence, he pledges to bring the union back from crisis.
He said, “For more than a year and half now ,the NUJ in Imo have been in crisis. Ambi oneze, Lambert Ojukwu and Christopher Akaonye have been fighting over the union leadership after an election that was inconclusive.
“Well, some parts of the matter is still court. but the crisis has faced out.
Speaking further, he said that the stakeholders suggested that instead of leaving the union to suffer with current crisis being in court, let every worrying faction stand down and let the neutral committee emerge so that the union can move forward while the case in court is been addressed.
” When the case in court has been addressed they can come back and take over the union. whoever wins the case or whenever they come to a consensus.
“That is why this is a caretaker committee. it is not substantive position.
this is just a restorative mandate ,You don’t allow a union to go down because they are fighting for leadership position.
He promised to restore the union to normal .
