The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ahmad Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Sokoto State.
Aliyu was declared winner having satisfied the provisions of the law.
He polled 453,661 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Saidu Umar, who scored 404,632 votes votes.

Umaru Dahiru polled 427 votes to come third in the election.
Umar is the candidate of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of the PDP. With the victory, APC had claimed Sokoto State.
Aliyu was a former deputy governor of Sokoto State and immediate past Secretary of Police Trust Fund.
