Troops kill ’41 ISWAP fighters — including top commander’ — in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) have killed 41 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Dikwa LGA of Borno.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, Abu Zahra, a top ISWAP commander, was among the killed fighters.

Zagazola said the operation which was led by Shaibu Waidi, the general officer commanding of the 7 division, was in response to attacks by ISWAP on Mukdolo village.

“The terrorist Commander, (Amir Jaysh) Abu Mohammed, in company of few fighters reportedly fled in disarray due to the superior firepower from the soldiers, thus abandoning their properties worth millions of naira in the terrorists’ house which were destroyed by the troops,” the publication said.

A gun truck, three motorcycles, and several other military equipment were recovered from the insurgents.

Meanwhile, there was a celebration in Konduga, Borno state, on Saturday after troops of the 222 battalion overpowered ISWAP fighters.

The insurgents were said to have attacked the military formation guarding the village around 6:45pm on Saturday.

In response, the troops engaged the fighters in a gun duel which resulted in the death of many of them while others fled.

“We recovered their truck, an anti-aircraft gun and all their weapons. No casualty was recorded on the side of the troops during the attack, ” a military source told Zagazola.

On March 9, TheCable reported how 26 fishermen were killed by suspected fighters ISWAP in Mukdolo village.
