Power supply restored in Imo after Labour agreed to end strike

There is a relief for Imo residents on Monday night after power supply was restored in the State.

Recall that rhe national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) agreed to suspend their industrial action in Imo State to enable peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues in an atmosphere of mutuality.

The decision is contained in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Imo state government and the unions.

According to the MoU which was signed by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State and Attorney General of Imo state on the government side, and the 4-man delegate sent from the national leadership of NLC and TUC, the tripartite committee will look into the areas of disagreeing and misunderstanding and resolve expeditiously.

Last week Tuesday, following the withdrawal of services by affiliates of the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress in Imo state, the Imo state government has again lashed out on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, accusing him of using the Labour platform to fight a personal war.

This followed the immediate shutdown of power supply and flight services in Imo state after the NLC had accused the state government of deploying thugs and armed operatives to disrupt the Workers Day rally at the Labour House in Owerri.

Checks by our correspondent on Tuesday showed that power has been restored in some parts of Owerri metropolis.

In some areas in Owerri like the MCC, Uratta, residents complained that power was never steady since Monday night.

At Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport Owerri, our correspondent learnt on Tuesday morning that full operations have resumed as flights arrives and departs without hindrance.
