Police operatives in Imo State have began manhunt of gunmen who killed two officers at police checkpoint located at Okpala Junction along Owerri/Aba Road, Ngor Okpala council area of Imo State.
Recall that one month ago, gunmen also killed five policemen and husband and wife at the same junction.
The latest incident, which happened early hours on Saturday, left two policemen dead and many others injured, our correspondent gathered.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen came in numbers and opened fire on the police officers who were on road-block morning stop-and-search duty.
A traveler who passed through the road confirmed to our correspondent that two police officers were killed while he saw one who was injured.
He said; “I saw the liveless body while coming to work this morning. Two killed and one injured inside police van”.
Speaking with the Imo police spokesperson, Henry Okoye said the team of policemen were drafted to the area.
“Our men have began intensive patrol in area with the aim of arresting perpetuators of this dastardly act to face the full wrath of law”.
Okoye said the command has commenced investigation over the incident.
