Post Date : September 1, 2023

Tony Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holdings, has denied a report that he is being lined up as the next governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

An All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Imran Muhammad had made a post on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that Elumelu is likely to be the next CBN governor.

“According to a source, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN Governor,” Muhammad posted.

Elumelu responded to the post on his X page by simply saying “LOL. No, please. This is false news!.”

Godwin Emefiele was suspended as the CBN governor by Tinubu in June and the former Apex bank chief is still in the Directorate of State Security (DSS) detention.

Meanwhile, Elumelu was at the presidential villa this week to pay a courtesy visit to Tinubu.

The business magnate applauded some of the economic decisions taken by the president and said that the private sector is encouraged by them.

Adressing reporters after his meeting with Tinubu on Tuesday, the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation said he believes that with time, Nigerians will benefit from the decisions taken.

“The private sector is encouraged with the bold decisions President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken and we hope that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will benefit from it,” Elumelu said.

“This is because it is all about the Nigerian people, It is all about the youths. It is all about making sure that women are involved and empowered.

“It is all about making sure our youths get jobs and I think Mr. President has this at the back of his mind and I believe, as a private sector person, that the actions and the decisions the president is taking in the long run will help our people.”
