Punch editorial, proof that not all voices have been silenced – CUPP

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has praised the courage and principled stand of The Punch newspapers following Wednesday’s trending editorial of the media outfit.

Spokesman of the opposition coalition, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere in a press statement averred that the editorial was proof that not all voices of reason in Nigeria have been silenced.

The statement read in part: “It is noteworthy that this courageous stand taken by the newspaper is coming at a time when the organised labour, popular electronic/print media and ethnic associations among others have opted to be silent in the face of obvious tyranny.

“Many of them are alleged to have been bribed to keep silent in the face
of return to military-like dictatorship.”

“We therefore urge those not yet compromised to borrow a leaf from
the newspaper’s courageous and patriotic stand. They should stand up and condemn Buhari’s growing autocratic actions.”

The CUPP also warned the Buhari administration and his foot soldiers against any
attempt to clampdown on The Punch newspaper and its staffers under any guise, for their courageous stand.

“This newspaper’s stand has further confirmed that not all voices have
been silenced by this regime. Others should join this crusade to end
impunity in our country”, the coalition stressed.
