The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Enugu has sacked Hon. Ijere Obinna Anthony of the Labour as the member representing Udenu Constituency in the state House of Assembly, JOURNALIST101 reports.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had declared ijere as the winner of the March 18 election, but the tribunal in their ruling on Saturday, said the Labour Party’s candidate didn’t qualify to stand for the election based on provisions of the 2022 electoral act.

The three-man panel led by Honourable Justice Adie Attoe Onyebueke while delivering their judgment on the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Solomon Izuchukwu Onah (JAC Solo), averred that the Labour Party’s candidate wasn’t qualified to stand for the election because he didn’t resign from his place of work (University of Nigeria Nsukka) withing the stipulated time in line with the new electoral act

The tribunal ordered the electoral umpire to issue a certificate of return to Hon. Onah accordingly.
