Corps members across the country have cried out over the tough time they have been facing as a result of their poor allowance.

They claimed that the money did not reflect the current economic realities in the country.

Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, one of the corps members who is serving in Delta State, and prefers to be identified as Saka, expressed discomfort over his inability to save from his monthly allowance despite his hard work.

He said, “The monthly allowance sustains nothing for me as a corper serving in a distant location. The expenses we face every day are higher than our monthly allowance, which doesn’t meet our daily needs, unless you have other alternatives. However, corps members cannot live basically on the monthly Income.

“One of the biggest financial challenges I face here is the inability to get the needed foodstuff from the market because of the prices of goods, and also being unable to save from the monthly allowance.

“I appeal to the Federal Government to include corpers in the ongoing subsidy removal palliative,” he added.

However, Saka urged the Federal Government to always have corps members in their plans s that the youth would have confidence in the future of the country.

Also speaking, a corps member serving in Kwara State, who pleaded to be anonymous for personal reasons, expressed how marketers and commercial bike riders were taking advantage of corpers whenever they were in uniform.

“The main challenge is the inflated price of purchasing foodstuffs, and even transportation, as vendors and bike riders take advantage of us when they see us wearing the Corper’s uniform to double the price for us. Corps members should be among the first set to qualify for the palliative,” she added.
