Rivers Crisis: Six commissioners resign from Fubara administration

Six Commissioners serving in the executive arm of Rivers State Government have tendered their resignation letter amidst a deepening political crisis in the state due to a faceoff between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Neeson Wike.

The Commissioners who resigned are:

1. Commissioner for Finance

Isaac Kamalu,

2. Commissioner for Special duties

Emeka Woke

3. Commissioner for Social Welfare

Mrs Inimie Aguma

4. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice

Professor Zacchaeus Adangor

5. Commissioner for Education

Professor Chinedu Mmom

6. Commissioner for Works

George Kelly.

The six Commissioners are said to be loyalists of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Recall the crisis started on October 30, 2023, when 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by the speaker Martins Amaewhule loyal to the FCT minister served an impeachment notice on Governor Sim Fubara.

The sitting Governor then asked Rivers people to tell those planning to impeach him, the offence he committed.
