The sum of N3 billion was earmarked for procurement of books for the national assembly library in 2024 budget.
This is contained in the 2024 appropriation bill.
According to details of the budget, N12.12 billion was also budgeted for the national assembly library complex (take-off grant).
Also, the federal government allocated N3 billion for senate car park project and another N3 billion for that of the house of representatives.
On Saturday, the two arms of the national assembly passed the 2024 appropriation bill, increasing its size from N27.5 trillion proposed by President Bola Tinubu to N28.7 trillion.
The budget has N1.7 trillion as statutory transfers, N8.7 trillion was allocated as recurrent expenditure, and N9.9 trillion as capital expenditure.
Meanwhile, Abubakar Bichi, chairman of the house of representatives committee on appropriations, said the budget was increased by N1.27 trillion after government-owned enterprises (GOEs) pledged to increase their revenue next year.
“We had a meeting with the GOEs, we believe that their submissions are not enough. They have agreed to increase their revenue,” Bichi said.
“That is how we are able to get that 1.2 trillion which we applied to capital.”
Bichi said the budget increase in the appropriation bill is allocated to the capital component rather than recurrent expenditure.
