11 Killed As Truck, Bus Collide In Kwara

At least 11 people were killed while seven others were injured in a fatal auto crash that occurred at Aiyere, Bode Saadu-Ilorin route in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday.
The crash, sources said, occurred around 4:50 am due to wrong overtaking and speeding.
It was gathered that the Toyota Hiace bus coming from Gombe en route to Lagos wrongfully overtook another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming DAF truck.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed the incident.

Spokesperson of the FRSC in the state, Mrs Olayinka Basambo said, “Yes, 18 people, all male adults, were involved and 11 sadly lost their lives while seven others were rescued with varying degrees of injury.”
She added that the injured had been taken to Ifeoluwa Hospital Bode Saadu for treatment.
According to her, the FRSC commander in the state, Stephen Dawulung, sympathised with families of the dead and wished the injured quick recovery.
“The command called on drivers to drive within the stipulated speed limits, avoid night journeys and long hours of driving without adequate rest.
“This can result in fatigue, lack of alertness, poor visibility and poor judgement which constitute high risk factors that result in crashes with high fatalities,” she added.
