The commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has reiterated the Command’s unwavering Commitment to ensuring that its officers and men uphold the highest standard of professionalism, respect the rule of law, and shun every form of corrupt practice while discharging their lawful duties.

The CP made this known while reacting to allegations of extortion and violation of human rights leveled against some operatives of the Command by Mr. Emmanuel Onwubiko, the National Coordinator of Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), during which he set up a high-powered investigating team comprising of his Monitoring Unit and other Disciplinary Units and tasked them to look into the allegations and ensure that any officer found wanting is severely sanctioned in accordance with the Force extant laws. The CP calls on HURIWA to assist the team with detailed information that will assist them in carrying out a comprehensive investigation.

More so, the Commissioner of Police has mandated Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Team Commanders, and Traffic Officers to continuously embark on strict supervision of their subordinates and clamp down on extortion and all forms of corruption.

The CP assertively stated that it is illegal and unprofessional for any Police officer to demand money from a citizen before lodging his complaint, responding to distress calls, or releasing a suspect on bail. He warned that supervisory officers who fail to fulfill their duty of oversight will also face appropriate sanctions.

The CP asked Imo residents to take advantage of the following emergency lines; CP Monitoring Unit 08066493801, Complaint Response Unit (CRU) 08061247069, Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) 07067419738, X-Squad 08103341610, Command Control Room 08034773600, and report any recalcitrant officer acting contrary to the professional ethics of the Force. He solicits more cooperation and support via the provision of credible information that will assist the Police in making this year more peaceful and secure for all and sundry in the State.
