US Judge Sentences Man Who Attacked Him In Court

30-year-old Deobra Delone Redden, who attacked a judge after being convicted in connection with a baseball bat attack has been sentenced to prison by the same judge.

According to Sky News, he jumped over a court bench to attack the judge before engaging in an altercation with court officials at the Clark County District Court in the US.

Redden who was captured on camera unleashing a horrific attack on the judge was sentenced to four years in jail.

He seized Judge Mary Kay Holthus by her hair after rushing over the bench before a courtroom clerk and marshal pulled him off her.

Prior to the attack, Redden attempted to persuade Judge Holthus that he was changing his ways and had appealed for leniency, characterizing himself as “a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how difficult it is.”

As it became evident that Judge Holthus was about to sentence him to prison, and as the court marshal moved to handcuff him and take him into custody, Redden swore and charged forward.

The judge was injured in the incident, but returned to work the next day.

A courtroom clerk, Michael Lasso, was treated for hand wounds, while a courtroom marshal was hospitalized for treatment of a bleeding gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder.

Mr Lasso was acknowledged as the “primary person” who lifted Redden off Judge Holthus and “probably saved her from more serious injuries,” according to the court’s head judge, Jerry Wiese.

It is unclear when Redden may face additional charges, such as battery on a protected person, in reference to the judge and cops that assisted her.
