Bandits kidnap five APC members in Zamfara, four students in Katsina

Five chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been reportedly abducted by bandits in Zamfara.

According to Zagazola Makama, the APC members, who are all from Kaura Namoda LGA, were abducted on Saturday while travelling to the Marafa area of the state.

The abducted politicians were reportedly on their way to the residence of Abdulaziz Yari, the senator representing Zamfara West senatorial district, when the assailants ambushed their convoy.

Among those abducted are Yahaya Sani Dogon Kade, the chairman of Dan Isah ward, and Bello Dealer, the chairman of Sakajiki ward.

Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara police command spokesperson, could not be immediately reached to confirm the attack.

Zamfara has been a hotspot of banditry and kidnapping in the north-west zone. The state is one of the bases of operation of Turji Bello, the notorious bandit declared wanted by the Nigerian Army.

On February 24, various bands of gunmen carried out numerous attacks in some communities in Gusau and Bukuyyum LGAs in the state.

During the attacks, bandits killed two residents and abducted many people from Kairu community in Zugu district.

Another group of assailants kidnapped six women at Shemori village, while a different set of gunmen abducted a woman and her one-year-old son in Mada town, Gusau LGA.

Similarly, suspected armed bandits have abducted four students in Katsina state.

The armed individuals stormed Paris Quarters, behind the Federal University Dutsinma, at about 2:20 am on Sunday.

Local sources told TheCable that the assailants, reportedly in large numbers, whisked away four individuals.

The victims include Wali Kayode (25), Fahad Muhammad (20), Emmanuel (surname unknown), and another yet-to-be-identified person.

Security operatives were mobilised to the scene after a distress call was put to them but the bandits had already fled.

Security sources said efforts are ongoing to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victims safely.

In April 2021, gunmen attacked Greenfield University in Kaduna state, abducting at least 20 students and two staff members.

Tragically, three of the kidnapped students were found dead days later.

The remaining 14 students were released after spending over a month in captivity.
