Bandits strike again, kill two Chinese expatriates, Policeman in Abia

The Abia state police command has confirmed the killing of two Chinese nationals and a police officer following an ambush by gunmen on their convoy in Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA.

A statement on Saturday by Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, said the victims were attacked on Friday evening while on their way to a company site at Agukwu-Amaya in Ndundu community.

“The manager, Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and Inspector Audu Saidu, one of the escort officers, were killed,” Chinaka said.

“The assailants also carted away the deceased Inspector Saidu’s rifle.”

She said a distress report was immediately received, prompting a coordinated response from the police, the military, and other security agencies.

“Upon receiving the information, operatives from the Abia State Command, in a joint operation with the military and other sister agencies, launched a search mission,” she added.

“As a result, three Chinese expatriates were rescued unhurt, while one sustained injuries.

Inspector Uba Ahmed, who was also rescued, suffered gunshot injury on his leg.”

The police spokesperson said both the injured expatriate and the police officer were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where they are currently receiving treatment.

She noted that operatives of the Command’s tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) visited the crime scene on Saturday.

“Through collaborative action involving police, the military, and local community members, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was also rescued unhurt,” Chinaka said.

She noted that investigation is ongoing, and efforts are in place to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.

Chinaka said that Danladi Isa, the state’s commissioner of police, has assured the public that the perpetrators will be punished.

“He urged residents to remain security conscious, go about their lawful activities without fear, and support the police by reporting any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities to the nearest Police Station or call the following Command’s emergency lines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006”.
