A Policeman in Imo state identified as Abubakar Mohammed has been sentenced to a two day in prison for invading a court session to arrest a suspect.
The incident which happened on friday at Orogwo customary court in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state disrupted a court session.
Our correspondent obtained a video footage circulating online wherein the cop was held by some lawyers and litigants.
Voices at the background demanded that the court should sentence him for unlawfully entering a sitting court session to effect an arrest.
A lawyer at the court when the commotion took place told our correspondent that the cop had been sentenced to a two days in prison for invading a siting court season.
He said that the Policeman and his colleagues came from the Ogbaku Divisional headquarters.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the situation had been addressed with the Policemen involved in the incident arrested.
Okoye informed that the cops would face trial and appropriate disciplinary actions meted out to them.
According to him, the leadership of the Police in the state remained committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that orderliness maintained in court premises.
Okoye said “the situation has been addressed and is now under control. The mobile officers involved have been arrested for allegedly entering Orogwe Customary Court premises to effect an arrest without due recourse to the court process.
“They will face trial, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against them. The Imo State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that orderliness is maintained at court premises for the effective administration of justice.
“The situation has been addressed and is now under control. The mobile officers involved have been arrested for allegedly entering Orogwe Customary Court premises to effect an arrest without due recourse to the court process. They will face trial, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against them.
