Not so long after the altercation of a band of Fulani herdsmen with the Mbaise community in Imo state was resolved, the nomads have again attacked another community in Imo state in an increasing display of arrogant audacity.
This time the rampaging nomads attacked and killed an indigene of Obudi Agwa in Oguta council area of Imo state, in his farm.
Crimefacts.news gathered that the deceased, Elder Ozoemena Iriaka had been among some locals who had sighted Fulani Herdsmen grazing their cattle on their farmland and had told them to leave their farm and go somewhere else.
The herders had agreed and had made to move on while the locals who were trying to create a path for flood water had gone back to their work and Iriaka was walking out of his damaged, when the herdsmen suddenly opened fire on the locals.
The bullets sprayed the area where the locals had been minutes ago before going back to their work.
Incidentally, it was only Iriaka who was within the range of the AK-47 bullets at the time and he was hit by the bullet and he fell to the ground.
According to community sources, while the 65-year old Ozoemena Iriaka was battling for his life, the herdsmen returned and right inside his farm inflicted deep match cuts all over his head and made certain he was dead before they left.
A community source Odime Okaru confirmed that Elder Ozoemena Iriaka was attacked and killed by Fulani Herdsmen who had been challenged for grazing their cows on his farmland.
He lamented the activities of the nomads describing it as very provocative to say the least.
Following the incident, the youths of the community had mobilized and caught up with one of the fleeing herdsmen who was handed over to the Oguta Police division after the community leaders prevailed on the angry youths not to take laws into their hands.
Meanwhile, officials of the Imo State Government have visited the community for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and had assured the community that a combined team of Policemen and soldiers have been mandated to round up the killer herdsmen. They further assured the community that the people of obudi Agwa will get justice.
