N6.3bn case: Court releases Jang’s travel documents

A Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos on Thursday granted the request of a former governor of the state, Jonah Jang, to release his travel documents to enable him travel for checkup in the United Arab Emirate .

The documents were seized by the court in 2018 when the former governor , who is standing trial alongside Yusuf Pam, a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government , were first arraigned on 17 counts.

The offences bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public fund amounting to N 6. 3bn were allegedly committed by the duo towards the end of his tenure.

Presiding Justice Christy Dabub, who ordered the release of the documents when the case came up for hearing on Thursday,
however , said Jang must return before the adjourned date of February 16, 17, and 18, 2021.
Counsel for Jang, Chief Mike Ozekhome ( SAN) , had pleaded with the court to grant his client the permission to travel for the checkup, a plea that was not objected by the counsel for the Economic and Financial Crime Commission ( EFCC) , Chief Rotimi Jacobs ( SAN) .
