RE: FALSEHOODS BY “CRIME FACTS NEWSPAPER” ON EDUCATION IN IMO STATE
The attention of the Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) has been drawn to the spurious, baseless, and malicious lead story published in the April 14, 2025 edition of a soft-sell tabloid, Crime Facts. The piece, riddled with inaccuracies and deliberate distortions, falsely claims that schools in Imo State are in dilapidated condition despite the investment of N159 billion in education over the past five years. This publication is not just an insult to truth, it is a direct assault on the collective efforts of the people and government of Imo State to rebuild, retool, and rejuvenate our educational sector.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Under the transformational leadership of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Imo State has witnessed an unprecedented revolution in basic education. The tale of a “free education” system that was “free of knowledge”, which produced paper certificates without substance, has been replaced by a robust, policy-driven model of learning—anchored on technology, infrastructural overhaul, teacher development, and modern pedagogy. Education in Imo is no longer a campaign slogan. It is a living, breathing institution of change and empowerment, with outcomes that are visible and verifiable.
Across the 305 electoral wards of the state, Governor Uzodimma has embarked on a visionary and aggressive plan to build, equip, and remodel schools—ensuring that no child, in any community, is left behind. As we speak, hundreds of classroom blocks have already been constructed or renovated in both urban and rural areas, fitted with modern teaching tools, furniture, solar-powered lighting, and water facilities. These are not mere promises; they are physical structures standing tall as symbols of our commitment to quality education for all.
In Ohaji/Egbema alone, more than ten primary schools have received new six-classroom blocks, from Community Primary School Umuapu to Abacheke and Umuokanne Central School. In Oguta, similar massive infrastructural strides have occurred, including brand new facilities at Izombe, Obajuju Akabor, and Amayi Primary School. The story is the same in Oru East, where schools in Omuma, Amiri, and Awo-Omamma have been transformed into 21st-century learning centers. This story is the same across the twenty-seven local government areas of the state. These projects are part of a larger statewide educational strategy of the Uzodimma administration aimed at rebuilding the foundation of learning in Imo State.
Beyond infrastructure, His Excellency has invested heavily in teacher training and curriculum reform. Through regular capacity-building workshops, digital literacy programs, and recruitment of qualified teachers, the teaching workforce in Imo has been revitalized. Our Basic Education Quality Assurance Framework is now one of the most robust in the country, with Imo children consistently outperforming their peers in national assessments.
Let it be made abundantly clear: the publication by Crime Facts is a desperate propaganda tool employed by detractors who failed to destabilize our state through orchestrated insecurity, and are now resorting to barefaced lies to discredit a government whose performance is grounded in facts and achievements. It is a disservice to journalism, to the people of Imo State, and most importantly, to the children whose futures are being reshaped through visionary leadership.
The IMSUBEB, therefore, urges the general public to ignore this publication in its entirety. We remain focused, undeterred, and resolute in our mission to build an education system that will serve as a model not just for the Southeast, but for Nigeria as a whole.
