Road crashes claim 1,374 lives in Q4 2025 — NBS

 

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says 1,374 persons died in road accidents in the fourth quarter of 2025.

In its latest report, the bureau said the deaths resulted from 2,731 road traffic crashes recorded during the period.

According to the NBS, the figure represents a 12.20 per cent increase compared with the 2,434 crashes recorded in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025, and a 6.72 per cent rise from the 2,559 crashes recorded in the corresponding period of 2024 (Q4 2024).

The report showed that serious crashes accounted for the largest share with 1,775 cases, followed by fatal crashes with 677 cases, while minor crashes were the least with 279 cases.

“Analysis of fatalities by gender indicates that males accounted for the majority of deaths. A total of 1,085 males were killed, representing 78.97 per cent of total fatalities, while 289 females died, accounting for 21.03 per cent,” the report stated.

It added that 6,561 males were injured during the period, representing 75.19 per cent of the total number of injured persons, while 2,165 females were injured, accounting for 24.81 per cent.

The bureau further noted that 4,059 vehicles were involved in road traffic crashes in Q4 2025, indicating a 9.41 per cent increase compared with 3,710 vehicles recorded in Q3 2025.

In terms of zonal distribution, the South-West recorded the highest number of crashes with 763 cases, followed by the North-Central with 744 cases, while the South-South recorded the least with 152 cases.

Regarding casualties, the North-Central zone recorded the highest number with 2,649 casualties, followed by the North-West with 2,497 casualties, while the South-South recorded the least with 420 casualties.
