Assassination Attempt: Give Lere Olayinka Justice, Activist tells Gov Fayemi, Ekiti CP

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, has told the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Kayode Fayemi and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, to ensure that justice is given to Lere Olayinka against those who sought to assassinate him.

Recall that Mr. Olayinka is a journalist, political commentator, spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, South-West and a Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the former Governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose.

The rights activist made the call in a statement released on Sunday, January 17, 2021, following a reported assassination attempt on Mr. Lere Olayinka’s life by the suspected killer thugs led by one Mr. Dele Omojola (a.k.a Marshall) who invaded GNN Guest House in Ado Ekiti on October 24, 2020, with sporadic shootings into a particular room thinking that Mr. Lere was lodged in the hotel.

Investigation revealed that the attempted assassination incident was reported to the office of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police by Mr. Lere Olayinka on November 20, 2020, including an official police statement written by Hon. Dayo Akinleye who also submitted a petition to the office of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police.

Mr. Dayo Akinleye, the owner of the said GNN Hotel was among the five people abducted by the armed thugs that very day at the hotel on October 24, 2020.

Details of the gruesome attack which include the names and CCTV footages showing the faces of the assailants were provided to the Police yet no single arrest was made till this moment.

In his official letter to the Police, Mr. Olayinka, accused the Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ade Ajahi, who on December 25, 2020, said: “Security agents were able to nip their plans in the bud by bursting the GNN Guest House where Maxima was picked while Lere Olayinka escaped and he is still on the run”.

On January 14, 2021, Lere Olayinka, also submitted a petition before the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police accusing one Dr. Sikiru Eniola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and a lecturer in Ekiti State University who is also the present special adviser on Tertiary Education to the governor of Ekiti State of incessant threat to life and incitement of attacks to his person.

Mr. Olayinka, accused the academic of always threatening to use his position as an appointee of the government in Ekiti State to deal with him.

He quoted Dr. Eniola, saying: “nothing will happen if Mr. Lere is killed”.
