2027: Isu Clan Decries Political Marginalisation

Demands Senatorial, Reps Seats, Deputy Governor

The people of Isu Clan, comprising Isu, Nwangele, Njaba, Nkwerre Local Government Areas and a half of Orlu LGA, being one of the largest, populous and politically significant groups in Imo State, have decried political marginalisation.

The people lamented that the political marginalisation against them began in 1999 with Isu Clan producing no Governor, no Deputy Governor, no Senator, no Speaker of the State Assembly, no Secretary to the State Government, No Anthony-General of the State, among other numerous political positions.

The people made the demand during a World Press Conference held at NUJ Press Centre, Owerri, on Thursday.

Speaking through the National President of Isu Clan Consultative Assembly (ICCA), Comrade Stephen Anugwom, the people called for the strong upholding of Charter of Equity and Zoning Arrangement in Imo State, so that Isu Clan can fairly and richly benefit from politics and governance just as other clans in Orlu Senatorial District and Imo State in general.

Hence, they legitimately demanded for immediate political inclusion of their sons and daughters who they said can even perform more excellently, bearing humanity at their hearts and minds.

“We demand that the Deputy Governorship position be zoned to Isu Clan for the 2027 gubernatorial election. This is not a request for preferential treatment; it is a necessary and long overdue step toward restorative justice and rebuilding confidence in the political system.

“The Orlu Zone Senatorial position should be zoned to Isu Clan for the upcoming political cycle. Oru, Orsu and Nwaboshi Clans had held this position for extended periods over the years. Oru Clan (inclusive of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta areas) had had more than their fair share under Senator Arthur Nzeribe, Senator Hope Uzodimma and Senator Osita Izunaso.

“Nwaboshi Clan (comprising Ideato North and South) had also had their fair share under Senator Rochas Okorocha.

“We therefore, consider it as wickedness and unreasonable for anybody from these clans to contemplate contesting for Orlu Senate in 2027.

“The House of Representatives Seat, now held by Isu Clan’s neighbors, rightfully belongs to Isu Clan. Let us call it what it is – Orsu Clan has been in control for nearly 3 decades.

“That the House of Representatives Seat should also go to Isu Clan, given that our brother from Orsu Clan had had more than their fair share: Geff Ojinika (4 years), Mayor Eze (4 years), Jerry Alagbaoso (12 years, uninterrupted), Canice Moore Nwachkwu (4 years by 2027), making it a total of 24 Long Years.

“All this period, Isu Clan was left out. Haba! That is not fair and the cycle has to end”, Anugom stated.

Anugom hinted that Isu Clan cares deeply about peace, unity and progress of Imo State, lamenting that close to 30 years, Isu Clan has been shown restraint in terms of politics and governance, even as he urged all proponents of equity, fair democracy and justice to uphold the principles and ideals of the Imo State Charter of Equity while allowing Isu Clan to hold those political posts they have been demanding.
