2 Hotel Workers Arraigned For Stealing Foodstuffs

The police in Lagos State have charged two staff of a hotel before an Ejigbo magistrates’ court over the theft of food items valued at about N1.5 million.

The police said the accused, Austine Francis and Regina Gabriel, stole the food items from the hotel’s store.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, told the court that the accused were arrested based on a report filed at the Shashsa Division.

He said, “My lord, while at the station, the accused persons agreed that they would pay the said amount and pleaded for a period of time.

“But while investigation was on, the accused later said that they won’t be able to pay given the amount they collected as salaries.

“The case was brought before the court based on the insistence of the hotel’s management.”

The Magistrate, Mrs A K Dosumu-Uthan, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned to November 8.
