20-year-old woman kills co-wife in Jigawa

 

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Rukayyah Amadu, for allegedly killing her co-wife, Asiyah Amadu, 30, by pouring hot water on her.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the incident occurred on February 24, 2025, at Buju village, Dutse LG, following a misunderstanding between the two women.

“Asiyah Amadu sustained severe burns and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on March 4, 2025, at about 0900hrs,” said the police statement.

The police announced that Rukayyah Amadu had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse for a discreet investigation.

Adam added, “During interrogation, Rukayyah confessed to the crime. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

In another incident, a newly married woman, Zainab Ibrahim, 22, was found unconscious in a pool of her blood at her matrimonial home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia LGA.

“The Hadejia Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, where they found a deep cut on her throat.

“Zainab was rushed to General Hospital Hadejia, where she was pronounced dead,” said Adam in the statement.

He stated that the police have begun an investigation and are working to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.

Similarly, the police discovered a headless and mutilated body of a 14-year-old almajiri, Bashir Adamu, along Jikas-Dabaja village, Gwaram LGA.

The corpse was identified by relations, who reported that Bashir had been missing for two days.

“The police suspect that Bashir was killed by ritualists. An investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement added.

The command has assured the public that it will thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
