2023 poll: We’re prepared for security challenges —IGP

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has assured Nigerians of the Police preparedness to tackle security challenges before, during and after the polls.

The IGP spoke, yesterday, in Kano, at the opening of a workshop on “Election Security Management for Police Officers” in the North-West zone’, organised by the Nigeria Police Force, NPC, in collaboration with Solar Security and Consult Company Limited.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 1, Sadiq Bello, Baba tasked police officers on best practices to mitigate election security management.

“We are preparing the minds of the police officers to be ready in confronting security challenges that might come up, to ensure a successful election. There are a lot of expectations on the police and other security agencies as the election is by the corner.

“Performance of the police has improved, you will believe me that, based on the recent election conducted in Ekiti State, there is hope for the country,” IGP, Baba added.

Also speaking, former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, said that they were confident that election would hold in spite the current security challenges in the country, saying “That is why the IGP initiatives should be commended. One aspect we are very concerned about is the new electoral law, 2022. We believe that our officers should be conversant with the provisions of these laws.”

A representative of the Kano state government, Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi, assured of the government’s continuous support to the police and other security agencies, noting that it would assist them to continue protecting the lives and property in the state.
