FACTCHECK: News of Power plant set ablaze by herdsmen in Aba misleading

There has been a trending news Whatsapp groups on Tuesday Morning that Fulani herdsmen engulfed the power plant locates at Odidi-Oma road, Aba in Abia State.

The trending story was shared on WhatsApp groups with an image of a burning power plant.

The news reads, “Just In: Aba power plant on fire this morning, the fire was set by some suspected people believed to be Fulani headmen along the Osisi-Oma road

“Aba Power Plant Engulfed in Flames; Suspected Arson Attack by Fulani Herdsmen

“In a shocking incident early this morning, the Aba Power Plant, located along Osisi-Oma road, was set ablaze in what appears to be a deliberate act of arson. The fire, believed to have been ignited by a group of suspected Fulani herdsmen, has caused significant damage to the facility.

“Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started around dawn, engulfing the entire power plant within minutes. Local authorities and firefighters were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene to combat the inferno. Despite their best efforts, it took several hours to bring the blaze under control. The extent of the damage to the power plant is still being assessed, but early reports suggest that it will take substantial time and resources to restore operations.

Also, when the photo trending on WhatsApp groups was checked on Google technology, the result showed a CNN report where Firefighters extinguish plant fire that reignited in Brunswick, Georgia, and prompted evacuations
