The Federal Government and Electricity Distribution companies have been urged to rescind their planned decision to implement new tarriff policy throughout the country.

Federal Government, the labour and distribution companies were said to have agreed to delay the take off of new tarriff shich has since elapsed .

But Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders’ Foundation (HURIDE), which made the call said increasing tariff immediately after the Covid-19 pandemic and #EndSARS protest when virtually the citizens are economically down amount to subjecting the people to more excruciating hardship.

“It will amount to multiple murder of the citizens. They should rescind the decision”, said Dede Uzor A Uzor, chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of HURIDE.
The group however lauded the distribution companies especially the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for improved power supply in recent time.

They asked the distribution companies to continue to improve their capacities so as to serve Nigerians effectively as this, they said, would trigger off the growth of the economy of South East,South South in particular and Nigeria in general with small and medium scale industries boasting their production.

“We also urge the distribution companies to provide necessary equipment and carry out relevant repairs to sustain and continously improve power supply in every part of South East and Nigeria in general. Create customer care that is friendly.

They should continue to upgrade their services and quick response to customers’ complaints” especially when their supplying facilities like transformers and other sensitive materials were down, the group said.
