VERIFYING THE CLAIM

When CrimeFacts news search on Google, there’s no reputable news organization that reported that Obasanjo said God cannot fix Nigeria.

The last time Chief Obasanjo made a public statement was on March 27 2024, according to Guardian Nigeria, he advised the current president Tinubu administration to leverage agric to address hunger and insecurity in the country.

According to the TheCable, in 2010, Obasanjo said even election conducted by Jesus Christ in Nigeria will be disputed.

On April 29, 2010, speaking at the Leon Sullivan dialogue on Nigeria at the National Press Club, Washington DC, the former president said not even Jesus Christ can conduct an election in Nigeria that would not be disputed.

“With all due respect, if Jesus Christ could come to the world and be the chairman of INEC, any election he would conduct will be disputed,” Obasanjo was quoted in media reports

Obasanjo’s comment was criticised by some Christian leaders, while Lai Mohammed, the then spokesperson of the defunct Action Congress (AC), criticised the former president for the “blasphemous and uncouth” comment.

On December 30 2020, Obasanjo asked Nigerians to stop blaming God for nation’s challenges.

Mr Obasanjo made the statement while delivering his New Year message at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to Punch Newspaper, Mr Obasanjo said with responsible leaders, no Nigerian should go to bed hungry..
