FACTCHECK: Claim Of Niger Military Leader Rejecting France President’s $100m bribe is FALSE

On Thursday, @AfricanHub on X platform posted that the Niger Republic military leader General Abdourahamane Tiani rejected 100 Million Bribe from French President Emmanuel Macron.

The post by @AfricanHub on X reads, ”Niger’s 🇳🇪 Military leader General Abdourahamane Tiani who is now Niger’s President Rejected $100 Million Bribe from French 🇫🇷 President Emmanuel Macron.

The post has since gained over 110k views, 223 reposts and over 600 likes on X as at Friday night.

ALSO, on Match 20, a YouTuber @New Tourist made the same claim on YouTube.

The video on YouTube attracted over 4k views.

VERIFICATION

When CrimeFacts news did a simple keyword search on Google, no reputable news organization in Africa or globally reported this claim of Niger Republic military leader rejecting Emmanuel Macron’s $100m bribe.

Findings indicated that the last time the Niger Republic military junta accused France of blatant interference” by backing the country’s ousted president as protestors rallied near a French base outside the capital Niamey, was in September 2023.

On August 3 2013, the Niger Republic regime denounced military agreements with France, a move that Paris has ignored on the grounds of legitimacy.

The agreements cover different timeframes, although one of them dating from 2012 was set to expire within a month, according to military leaders.
