Nine arrested in Taraba for NNPC pipeline vandalism

 

Taraba State Police Command has arrested nine individuals in connection with the vandalism of a Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, pipeline along the Kona Mountains and Minda axis.

According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, James Lashen Saminu, on Tuesday, the arrests were made on September 15, 2025, at approximately 10:13 a.m., following intelligence reports that suspected vandals were actively tampering with the pipeline in the area.

“Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by Ayuba Yohanna, responded swiftly to the scene and apprehended the suspects during the illegal activity”, the statement read.

Those arrested were identified as: Lagne Apollos (20), Isa Aminu (20), Ahmad Aminu (15), Kamal Abubakar (25), Solomon Tanko (20), Simon Mathias (19), Victor Kanu (26), Dogara Patrick (21), and Emmanuel Apollos (20)

Several items, including 30 cut-to-size pipes, 3 long welding cylinders, 2 short gas cylinders, 2 shovels, chains, scissors (3 each), 3 hammers, and 1 vintage Ridgid tool, were also confirmed to have been recovered from the suspects.

“The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue”, the police said.

The State Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and warned that anyone found engaging in acts of sabotage would face the full weight of the law.
