Troops rescue man during clash with bandits in Benue.

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a kidnapped man after a gun battle with suspected bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.

The operation took place around Agera Nagu in Mbagina, Michihe Council Ward.

According to OPWS Force Commander, Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, in a statement on Monday, the troops, working with the Benue State Civil Protection Guard (BSCPG), acted on credible intelligence about the bandits’ activities.

“The soldiers exchanged fire with the criminals, forcing them to abandon their victim and flee.

“The rescued man, identified as 43-year-old Teryima Torbee, was confirmed unhurt,” the statement added.

Gara added that the troops recovered an FN rifle, five magazines, and 83 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition during the raid.

He praised the professionalism of the soldiers and the support of the Civil Protection Guard.

The statement urged residents to continue sharing information with security agencies to help fight crime and keep the area safe.
