Two passengers have been kidnapped, and the driver was shot by hoodlums along the Kasuwan Shanu Jootar axis of Taraba and Benue state borders.
In a statement, the spokesman, 6 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said upon arrival at the scene, troops discovered a Sharon bus with registration number LSR 445 XT Lagos, conveying nine passengers.
The driver, identified as Abdul Amukama, a 45-year-old male from Makurdi, was found with a gunshot wound to his right hand.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two out of the nine passengers were forcibly abducted into the bush by suspected kidnappers before the arrival of troops.
Following the incident, troops of 6 Brigade immediately commenced aggressive search and rescue operations within the general area to secure the release of the abducted victims.
The operation is ongoing, with troops maintaining sustained pressure on the criminals.
Meanwhile, the injured driver was promptly evacuated to the Federal University, Wukari, Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
The affected vehicle has been recovered and is in safe custody.
Commenting on the operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swiftness and professionalism. He reassured the public of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.
Uwa urged road users to go about their lawful activities without fear, and called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
