2027 is fast approaching, and politicians in Nigeria are gearing up for various positions from the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, the governorship, and the state assembly elections.

Recently, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced the 2027 election timetable.

Going into the preparations for the elections, in the presidential contest, the APC, which came into power since, seems to have the coast cleared for it as opposition politicians struggle to align to clinch power. However, for the National Assembly and state levels, the situation seems uncertain.

At this time, many defections and realignments by politicians to achieve their ambitions are taking place.

Regarding this,  an X user, BUCOS, shared a video clip of Adamu Garba, who is a vocal member of the APC, removing the party flag from his office.

The X user claimed that the clip was recent, adding that Garba had planned to leave the party.

Garba, also a social media influencer, became popular in 2020,. after he sued Twitter (now X) and its then-founder, Jock Dorsey, for supporting the EndSARS protests. He also launched a social media platform called Crowwe.

During the controversial Twitter ban by the late former president Muhammadu Buhari, he offered his platform as an alternative to the microblogging site. However, Crowwe was deleted from the App Store after a series of bad reviews from Nigerians and allegations of plagiarism of the terms and conditions of Sporty.

Verification

However, to ascertain how true this claim was, FACTWATCH Nigeria did a keyword search on Google and discovered that the video first appeared online in May 2022.

We found out further that Garba made the decision in 2022, when he announced his intentions not to buy the APC presidential nomination form pegged at N100 million at that time for the 2023 presidential election. He dumped the party, alleging that it had “lost its moral bearings.”

Garba said the APC has drifted from its core values.

However, he rejoined the APC in July of that year, stating that “he could do more harm to his country, Nigeria if he did not support a combination of a great strategist and a great tactician on a single ticket.”

Garba while reacting to the claim that the video posted by the X user was recent, labeled the post as “FAKE NEWS”.

Conclusion

The video being circulated by the X user is four years old and not recent.
