An operative of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been shot dead by a “repentant Boko Haram member” during a dispute in Mafa LGA of Borno state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred on Friday at about 10:16am when an argument broke out between the two men in Mafa town.
Citing security sources, the publication said the suspect, identified as Abba Gana, 20, allegedly shot the victim, Adamu Ali, 25, in the chest with an AK-47 rifle.
Makama said Ali was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
The suspect was said to have been subsequently arrested by Abba Sadu, the CJTF commander in Mafa LGA, and handed over to the police.
Makama said security operatives visited the scene and recovered the weapon used in the incident as evidence.
The police criminal investigation department (CID) in Maiduguri has commenced a probe into the shooting.
