Suspected Bandits Attack Zamfara Community, Abduct Residents

 

 

Suspected armed bandits have attacked Kurfa community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting an unspecified number of residents.

According to the Divisional Police Officer in Bukkuyum, the incident occurred on April 2, 2026, at about 1:28 p.m., when a large group of heavily armed assailants stormed the community.

The attackers, reportedly carrying sophisticated weapons, operated for a prolonged period, firing sporadically and forcing many residents to flee for safety. Several people were reportedly abducted and taken to an unknown location, while others escaped into surrounding areas.

 

Zamfara State police siad said a joint team of its operatives, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, responded swiftly to the distress call and mobilized to the scene of the attack.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said a joint team of police operatives, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, responded swiftly to the distress call and mobilized to the scene.

“The suspects who fled before the arrival of security personnel are being hotly pursued by tactical teams. Some residents who escaped into surrounding areas have been intercepted and rushed to hospital for treatment,” he said.

“Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of persons abducted. Rescue operations are still in progress. The command has intensified operations in the area and is working closely with relevant stakeholders to track down the perpetrators,” DSP Abubakar added.

“The Zamfara State Police Command assures the public of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the state. Further developments will be communicated as they unfold.”
